The IBM System p5 505 Server is an entry level server available in 19-inch rackmount 2U drawer package featuring 1, 2 or 4 core symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems with Power5 processor cores featuring simultaneous multithreading designed for increased system utilisation and improved performance.

IBM p5 505 utilizes logical partitioning (LPAR) technology implemented via IBM Virtualisation Engine systems, and gives clients the flexibility to run the IBM AIX 5L and Linux operating systems simultaneously in micro partitions.
