NetApp NearStore

Network Appliance Nearline storage provides a cost effective, fast access storage method for backup and recovery, online reference and archival data.

Primary storage is best suited for data requiring active, repeated retrieval and frequent updating, for example emails and databases. Archival media, such as tape and optical, are more suitable for data that needs to be retained for long periods of time but is rarely accessed.

Nearline storage bridges the gap between these 2 storage methods by providing much faster data access than archival storage but at a much lower cost than primary storage. This makes nearline storage ideal for backup and remote mirror data that needs to be readily available for recovery and for online reference.
