NetApp FlexClone and NetApp FlexVol

NetApp's Data ONTAP 7G operating system introduces two new virtualized volume structure technologies called FlexVol and FlexClone.

FlexVol volumes pool storage resources automatically, virtualising storage and simplifying storage management. FlexClone volumes provide efficient, near instantaneous writable copies of FlexVols.

FlexClone volumes enable storage administrators, developers and database adminsitrators to easily generate dynamic copies of their data, for storage, testing, development etc.

NetApp FlexVol

NetApp FlexVol technology delivers true storage virtualisation solutions that can lower overheads and capital expenses, reduce disruption and risk, and provide the flexibility to adapt quickly and easily to the dynamic needs of the enterprise.

FlexVol technology works by pooling storage resources automatically, enabling the creation of multiple flexible volumes on a large pool of disks.
